EVENINGS OF RECOLLECTION

Marshall Residence encourages attendance at an Evening of Recollection (monthly mini-retreats) for men of all ages with the support and formation of the Layton Study Center in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Generally, these are held at the Cathedral of St. Paul in the Lower Level “Cana Chapel” from 7:00pm - 9:00pm on the 1st Monday of each month.

What is an Evening of Recollection?

An Evening of Recollection is similar to a two hour silent retreat. Its purpose is to help men sanctify their ordinary life in and through their work, family, and recreational activities.

A meditation by a priest from the Prelature of Opus Dei and a talk by a layman on living the Christian virtues are combined with time for spiritual reading, and an examination of conscience in front of the Blessed Sacrament. There is also the opportunity for the Sacrament of Confession. The evening closes with the celebration of the Mass and is followed by an optional time for fellowship, light snacks, and refreshments.

In the midst of our often busy lives, these evenings are a time to slow down, and have an opportunity for personal prayer and reflection on our everyday occupation.

Are there Recollections for Men of different ages?

Currently the Men of the Twin Cities are given one Evening of Recollection per month that serves men of all ages. As interest and attendance grow, there is an opportunity for development of “State of Life” Recollections (i.e. College Students, Young Professionals, Professionals, etc.)
